Kohler Ronan – Now a NYSERDA Approved Provider

We’re excited to announce that Kohler Ronan is an approved Technical Consultant for the New York State Energy Research & Development Authority’s (NYSERDA) Commercial New Construction Program. Under this program, Kohler Ronan will provide technical support to help design teams assess and determine appropriate energy efficiency opportunities for New Construction as well as Substantial Renovation Projects. Upon approval, NYSERDA may provide financial support for the installation of energy efficiency measures or to incorporate other energy performance features in qualified building projects.

There are various levels of available support ranging from project reviews and energy modeling, to technical and financial support for Zero Net Energy Projects and Smart Buildings. Depending on the level of support required, technical support may be free of charge, or costs may be shared with NYSERDA.

Arch Daily Names Thompson Exhibition Building Best 100 Wood Projects in US

Arch Daily has named the Thompson Exhibition Building at Mystic Seaport Museum among the Best 100 Wood Projects in the US. Kohler Ronan is honored to have collaborated with Centerbrook Architects and Planners to create what is arguably most prominent structure on the museum’s campus.

Kohler Ronan provided the Thompson Exhibition Building with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and technology systems along with many sustainable system features.

NYBG Edible Academy Wins ENR New York’s Best Green Project

ENR New York’s Best Projects contest has awarded New York Botanical Garden’s Edible Academy with Best Green Project. Kohler Ronan collaborated with Cooper Robertson to create this innovative, cultural and educational facility.

We are thrilled to have contributed MEP/FP systems design for this building which feature two high-tech classrooms, geothermal heating and cooling, green roof, composting restrooms, a demonstration kitchen, and an interconnected teaching greenhouse.

Rockwell Visual Communication Center Unveiled

The American School for the Deaf (West Hartford, CT) recently unveiled its state-of-the-art Rockwell Visual Communication Center.  Having transformed what was previously and old gymnasium, the project team for this facility has created a venue equipped to accommodate performances, dances, webinars, classes, and graduations for the deaf and hard of hearing.

KR enjoyed collaborating with the School and our colleagues at Clohessy Harris & Kaiser, LLC on this exciting, new interactive space. Read more via the links below.

UConn Hartford Wins 2018 Charter Award

The Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU) has awarded UConn Hartford with a 2018 Charter Award.

Kohler Ronan was thrilled to have provided MEP/FP systems design for this building, designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects, which integrates the historic Hartford Times façade with a new academic facility and retail spaces that revitalize the downtown area.

Talya Santillan WBC’s 2018 Outstanding Women

The Tenement Museum Receives MASTerworks Award for Best Restoration

The Tenement Museum has won a 2018 MASterworks Award for Best Restoration from The Municipal Art Society of New York. Located on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, the museum preserves the history of immigration and depicts immigrant life through the lens of families who once resided in this iconic neighborhood.

The Met Skylights Renovation

The Skylight Renovation Underway at The Metropolitan Museum of Art

One of Kohler Ronan’s current projects with The Metropolitan Museum of Art is an extensive skylight replacement. The project, led by Beyer Blinder Belle, is the largest of its kind in The Met’s history. Not only does the project call for the replacement of 30,000 sf of skylights above the museum’s oldest spaces, but also new ducts, pipes, and cables, as well as 50,000 sf of masonry repairs and repointing. It’s a challenging and impressive project for which we are proud to be creating innovative engineering design solutions. Learn more about the skylights renovation in this New York Times article.

UConn Hartford Wins Connecticut Preservation Award

Kohler Ronan is honored to be the recipient of a Connecticut Preservation Award – Award of Merit by the Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation for the rehabilitation of the Hartford Times Building. The façade of the building was restored and integrated into the new UConn Hartford campus which has contributed significantly to the revitalization of downtown Hartford.

The Frick Collection Board of Trustees Approves Designs to Enhance and Expand Facilities

The Frick Collection has revealed approved designs to enhance and expand its landmark museum’s facilities. We are thrilled to be providing MEP/FP Engineering and Technology Design alongside the architectural leadership of Selldorf Architects and Beyer Blinder Belle.

The project will include approximately 60,000 square feet of enhanced spaces and 27,000 square feet of new construction. A 2020 groundbreaking is expected.
