Building Design + Construction’s 2019 Giants 300 Report has ranked Kohler Ronan #15 among the Top 70 Cultural Sector Engineering Firms. Kohler Ronan was also ranked in six additional sectors for engineering firms:

Robert Hedman, PE is Featured in this Month’s CSE’s MEP Roundtable

Kohler Ronan’s Robert Hedman, PE is featured in this month’s Consulting-Specifying Engineer’sMEP Roundtable: Focus on Specialty Structures. Automation, controls and technology sports arenas, historical buildings, theaters and other specialty building require unique engineering design.

Robert discusses the unique engineering design required for specialty buildings. “Our company specializes in systems for historic renovation, restoration and adaptive reuse projects pursuing aggressive efficiency goals. Maximizing energy efficiency, reducing water use and reducing environmental impacts continue to drive system designs.”

UConn Hartford Earns LEED Gold Certification

UConn Hartford has earned it’s LEED Gold Certification. Kohler Ronan is honored to have collaborated with Robert A.M. Stern Architects on this amazing project.

Kohler Ronan provided MEP/FP, Technology Design, LEED, and Sustainable Design services for UConn Hartford’s Downtown Campus. Our engineers helped the project achieve its sustainable goals in the areas of Water Efficiency, Energy & Atmosphere, and Indoor Air Quality with 35% indoor water use reduction, 34% energy cost savings, and 30% increased ventilation for higher indoor air quality. Kohler Ronan also provided low emitting materials and sealants, indoor chemical and pollutant source control, and thermal comfort design.

The Statue of Liberty Museum Officially Opens

The new 26,000 sf Statue of Liberty Museum has officially opened to the public. The National Park Service and the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation constructed the new museum on Liberty Island in an effort to accommodate its growing number of visitors. Kohler Ronan is proud to have provided comprehensive MEP/FP services and to have collaborated with FXCollaborative on this historic project.

Maxwell S. Chien, PE, LEED AP BD+C is a 2019 40 Under 40 Award Winner

Kohler Ronan is pleased to announce that Maxwell Chein has been named among this year’s Consulting Specifying Engineers’ 40 Under 40. This list recognizes forty engineers under the age of forty who demonstrate incomparable dedication, leadership, and desire to improve their industry and their communities.

Serving as Senior Mechanical Engineer and one of the firm’s youngest associates, Max designs systems for some of the firm’s larger projects and most distinguished clients such as the New York Public Library and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He is an enthusiastic and highly-focused engineer, an effective communicator among his clients and coworkers, and a volunteer for the Ace Mentor Program of America Inc.

The Tenement Museum Honored with a Lucy G. Moses Preservation Award

Last night at the Plaza Hotel in New York, the Tenement Museum received a Lucy G. Moses Preservation Award from the New York Landmarks Conservancy.  For nearly 50 years, the New York Landmarks Conservancy has been a leader in preserving and restoring New York City’s architectural heritage, and the Moses Awards are the Conservancy’s highest honors for exceptional preservation projects within New York City. Award winning projects must exhibit excellence in the preservation, restoration, or adaptive use of historic buildings, streetscapes, and landscapes that preserve residential, institutional, commercial, religious, and public buildings.

Having provided comprehensive MEP/FP engineering design services in conjunction with the Tenement Museum’s 2018 renovations and expansion, Kohler Ronan was delighted to have been present at the awards dinner and to have the Tenement Museum recognized alongside other unique NYC projects.

Collaborating with Perkins Eastman, Kohler Ronan’s team contributed to the restoration of truly special NYC buildings, commemorating not just architecture, but a truly significant period in the city’s history. The Tenement Museum’s historic buildings serve as a window into the immigrant experience in one of America’s most iconic neighborhoods. The original residences on Orchard Street housed over 15,000 working class immigrants from over 20 nations.

Mid-Atlantic Association of Museums’ Building Museums 2019 Symposium

Kohler Ronan was pleased to attend and be a Platinum Sponsor for this year’s MAAM Building Museums Symposium in Brooklyn, NY.  We were honored to have had our own Steve Lembo, PE present our work on recently completed renovations at the Tenement Museum in a discussion entitled: “Revealing the Past to Challenge the Future: The Forensic Architecture of the Tenement Museum.” Joining Steve on the panel were Nick Leahy from Perkins Eastman and David Favaloro from the museum.

Also at the conference, Joe Lembo, PE was thrilled to introduce the closing keynote address highlighting another of Kohler Ronan’s projects, “Access For All:  Creating the New Statue of Liberty Museum.” Our engineers designed comprehensive MEP/FP & Technology systems for this 26,000 square-foot facility located on Liberty Island.

While visitors are already enjoying the renovated Tenement Museum and experiencing the unique piece of American history that space brings to life, the Statue of Liberty Museum will open in May of 2019 with what will undoubtedly be another truly transformational experience. Kohler Ronan collaborated with FXCollaborative and the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation on this very challenging and historic project.
