NYBG Edible Academy Wins ENR New York’s Best Green Project

ENR New York’s Best Projects contest has awarded New York Botanical Garden’s Edible Academy with Best Green Project. Kohler Ronan collaborated with Cooper Robertson to create this innovative, cultural and educational facility.

We are thrilled to have contributed MEP/FP systems design for this building which feature two high-tech classrooms, geothermal heating and cooling, green roof, composting restrooms, a demonstration kitchen, and an interconnected teaching greenhouse.

UConn Hartford Wins 2018 Charter Award

The Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU) has awarded UConn Hartford with a 2018 Charter Award.

Kohler Ronan was thrilled to have provided MEP/FP systems design for this building, designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects, which integrates the historic Hartford Times façade with a new academic facility and retail spaces that revitalize the downtown area.

Talya Santillan WBC’s 2018 Outstanding Women

Talya Santillan, PE, LEED AP has been selected as one of the Women Builders Council‘s (WBC) 2018 Outstanding Women. We are proud of her commitment to increasing diversity and expanding the role of women in the architecture, engineering and construction industry, as well as her constant demonstration of leadership within the field of engineering. Talya is a member of the New York Chapter of Professional Women in Construction (PWC) and the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). Congratulations Tayla!

The Tenement Museum Receives MASTerworks Award for Best Restoration

The Tenement Museum has won a 2018 MASterworks Award for Best Restoration from The Municipal Art Society of New York. Located on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, the museum preserves the history of immigration and depicts immigrant life through the lens of families who once resided in this iconic neighborhood.

UConn Hartford Wins Connecticut Preservation Award

Kohler Ronan is honored to be the recipient of a Connecticut Preservation Award – Award of Merit by the Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation for the rehabilitation of the Hartford Times Building. The façade of the building was restored and integrated into the new UConn Hartford campus which has contributed significantly to the revitalization of downtown Hartford.

Mystic Seaport Museum

Thompson Exhibition Building Wins AIA QUAD 2017 Design Award

The Mystic Seaport Museum’s Thompson Exhibition Building has been awarded with an AIA QUAD 2017 Design Award.  Specifically, the 21,000 sf facility was recognized with an Honor Award – With Distinction.

The jury praised the museum and provided the following thoughts: “Whimsical and joyful, this project has very strong imagery: the jury admired its resilience and its work with glulam structure to connect with traditional shipbuilding imagery.”

The Annual QUAD (Quality Unites Architectural Design) Conference unites AIA (American Institute of Architects) Chapters from Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. This year’s conference was held in Albany, New York.

Kohler Environmental Center Wins 2017 Education Facility Design Award of Excellence

We are proud to learn that the Kohler Environmental Center at Choate Rosemary Hall has won a 2017 Education Facility Design Award of Excellence from the AIA Committee on Architecture for Education. Completed in 2012 and located in Wallingford, CT, this state-of-the-art environmental center is LEED Platinum Certified, and achieves net-zero energy usage. Thompson Exhibition Building Receives CREW CT Award

The Mystic Seaport Museum’s Thompson Exhibition Building was honored with a Blue Ribbon Award in the Best Specialty Project category by CREW CT – The Real Estate Exchange. The award was presented recently at a ceremony held at the Connecticut Science Center in Hartford during which 8 other outstanding CT projects completed in 2016 were recognized. Kohler Ronan designed comprehensive mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems in addition to conducting extensive energy modeling for the state-of-the-art facility totaling 21,000 square feet. Congratulations to Centerbrook Architects and Planners for a great collaboration.
