The Buckley School

Arts & Sciences Building Renovation

Description

In conjunction with the renovations to this 100-year-old school’s existing buildings, Walsh and Hubball, The Buckley School also acquired two, five-story townhomes across the street. It had been decided that these newly obtained, historic townhomes would house the school’s Arts & Sciences facilities. So, while one building project consisted of renovating existing facilities, the other consisted of combining the townhomes into a state-of-the-art, 15,000 square-foot science, music, and art facility.

Kohler Ronan was pleased to provide comprehensive MEP/FP systems design for the new Arts & Sciences Building. Faced with the challenge of combining two historically significant townhomes, our engineers thoughtfully specified mechanical systems which could be effectively and efficiently accommodated within the shell of a 19th century space. Similar to Kohler Ronan’s goal for the renovated Walsh Building, it was crucial to provide building systems that were both suitable for the desired learning environment and which would meet or exceed the school’s sustainability goals. The Arts & Sciences Building received a LEED Silver certification.
