Description
The Rioult Dance Center is a truly a unique New York arts space, serving as home to both a professional company and a dance school. More than just a studio space, the Rioult has quickly become a gathering place for the surrounding community as well. Within the mixed-use facility, the center incorporates dance facilities, administrative offices, and public meeting spaces. Additionally, members of the public are encouraged to register for classes as the center offers programs for toddlers through adults.
While not large in terms of square footage, the dance center uses its space wisely. High ceilings, mirrors, and substantial windows enhance the five dance studios, the largest of which is also equipped with curtains, blackout shades, theatrical lighting, and state-of-the-art sound systems. Retractable seating, which accommodates 100 for intimate performances and presentations, is also incorporated throughout the building’s common areas, including the lobby, are flexible practice and warmup spaces for use during the day.
In conjunction with an interior fit-out, Kohler Ronan was happy to design new MEP/FP building systems throughout the Rioult. Specifically, our designs incorporated a variable refrigerant flow (VRF) heat pump system, utilizing modular air-cooled heat pumps connected to indoor fan coil units. Ventilation throughout the dance school is provided via a dedicated outdoor air unit. Engineering scope also included high-efficiency lighting and low-flow plumbing fixtures connected to the base building infrastructure.
