Description
A beautifully renovated and expanded, historic Steel Plant is home to the Marist College Fashion and Art & Digital Media programs. Previously housed in an antiquated campus building, the completed Steel Plant accommodates digital labs administration offices, fashion studios, a fashion exhibition gallery, an art gallery, and a café located in a light-filled Winter Garden. Also incorporated are a Fashion Resource Center and Mporium. The center contains textile samples, software, and countless books, while the Mporium is a student-run, entrepreneurship-focused boutique.
In support of the 12,000 square-foot renovation of the existing space and corresponding two-story, 35,000 square-foot addition, Kohler Ronan designed multiple energy-efficient rooftop units with enthalpy wheels along with a condensing boiler to provide perimeter and local reheats to the space. Multiple exhaust systems were provided for print making, textile production, and painting applications. The building exposes many of the mechanical, plumbing, and electrical components, making it part of the architectural design.
